I was admitted to Heritage in March of 2018 because I had 5 broken vertebrae and a broken leg and came in on a stretcher straight from the hospital. I was unable to bear any weight so I was bedridden for just about 1 month. This was a very hard transition for me. I went from being able to do everything on my own, to have to depend on people for my total care. I was given a Geri chair, and begin to attend activities, and bingo was my favorite. Attending activities with Tasha was one of the highlights of my day. I received restorative care, and Ms. Tiffany Sanders was very encouraging, and supportive the entire time. She made me feel like I could really walk again. The physical therapist was great as well. I received so much encouragement and support from staff, and residents, and it really made a difference in my attitude. It gave me the determination I needed to work through my treatment, and gain my independence back, so I could return home. Before I got discharged physical therapist made a home visit, to ensure that my home was situated so I could be able to care for myself when I returned. I got discharged in June of 2018, and I left walking out of Heritage using a walker. Something I didn't think would be possible considering how I came in. Sara Ward to me is a star employee. She went above and beyond for me while I was there, even after being discharged. She would check in with me to see if I was ok, and needed anything, even went grocery shopping for me. It was so nice to know that I was still cared about and thought of. I often went back to visit staff and residents when I was able. If I had any advice for someone who comes into Heritage I would tell them to, “Get involved as much as you can in your treatments, attend activities, go eat your meals in the dining room, and not just stay in your room. Be friendly and make friends” I am thankful for the staff and residents of Heritage. I was thankful for being able to return home.
